This Is Us Season 1 Episode 5 Preview: Life Unexpected

We’ve seen Rebecca and Jack as parents-to-be, new parents, and parents of three 8-year-olds trying to keep their lives together, but what were the couple like before? Which of them didn’t want to have kids and which of them did, a fact that almost broke up their marriage early on?

This Is Us Season 1 Episode 5 promises to deliver some sweet, sad drama in the lives of the Pearsons, but the biggest shock of all is the presence of Kevin at Randall’s place.#ThisIs

Are they on the road to recovery in their relationship, or is this just a temporary stop for Kevin with someone that cannot deny him as he finds his own place in New York City? Meanwhile, one couple prepares for another child (possibly), while another argues over whether to have them.

Not so unexpectedly, Rebecca never wanted to have children. Jack, yes, he’s the perfect guy and the perfect dad, and I mean, he’s played by Milo Ventimiglia, so he’s not bad to look at. Rebecca, no, which is shown in This Is Us Season 1 Episode 3 as she struggles to adjust to having each of the children, and not just Randall.

She never felt the maternal calling that some women naturally do, so becoming a mother was harder on her than being a father was on Jack, and losing one of her babies only heightened that. So how did Jack persuade her to have children, and inadvertently persuade her to have three at once? Again, he’s played by Milo Ventimiglia, and did you see him by the pool in the previous episode? Who wouldn’t?

Kate is missing from this preview, but she surely won’t be missing from the episode. Perhaps the focus will lie on the parents; all of the parents, including William, especially as Randall’s daughters and Kevin learn that he’s dying. How will this affect everyone in the Pearson family?

This Is Us continues Tuesday at 9/8c on NBC. Watch the trailer!
