The Originals Preview: Official Trailer (Season 4)

The Originals Season 4
The latest trailer released by the CW for The Originals Season 4 foreshadows the most gruesome, action-packed, family-oriented season yet. After waiting for 10 long months, in exactly 1 week, Marcel, Klaus, and the rest of the gang will be back playing mental chess and ripping out throats on our screens again.
5 years after Marcel’s revenge…

As the trailer above shows, everyone is busy trying to get their chess pieces together to start a new round of “Who is the King of New Orleans?” Marcel claims its him, and telling from his position in the trailer, he’s right… for now. Hayley is still scouring the globe trying to find the cure for the afflicted Mikaelsons. Klaus is still chained in prison (at least it’s not the mental darkness of Tunde’s blade anymore). Vincent is now a preacher (?) conducting his Mikaelson-and-family-free church for the people of N.O.. So that leaves Marcel running the city and the vampires within its borders.

The New Big Bad

Vincent’s voice foreshadows a new big bad that will be a danger to everyone in the city. Although there was no indication of who the new villain might be, Vincent makes it clear that they are a force to be reckoned with. Hopefully this new formidable force brings The Mikaelson family (Marcel, Elijah, Klaus, Hayley, Kol, Rebekah, and Freya) back together again in order to defeat them. I mean Marcel is an amazing tactician, but he got all his talents from his father: Klaus Mikaelson.

The scene where Klaus asks, “Have you come to taunt me, Marcel,” looks like it carries a lot more weight than Marcel showboating about his win 5 years later. No, telling from Marcel’s face and other information buzzing around the internet, he will visit Klaus in order to gain information on how to deal with the big bad – prompting an alliance between father and adopted son once again. I don’t know about you all but I’m bouncing off the walls just thinking about them in action again. The only thing better than those two going at each other’s throats for the crown is them working together to take down a big bad. I couldn’t be any more excited.

The Mikaelsons and Hope

The only two things notably missing from the trailer and thereby still in the realm on complete possibility are the Mikaelsons in the dream world and Hope. Supposedly Elijah, Kol, Rebekah, and Freya are still in Freya’s created utopia together, twiddling their thumbs until they can be saved.

In spite of this, Hope is the more pressing concern this season. The CW gave the audience a glimpse of her in the first CW trailer released during Comic-Con 2016, where she asked Hayley about her father right at the end. Also, recently a poster was released with the haunting quote, “Evil walks with us… always and forever.” Could this be an indication of Hope’s path in the series? Or is the “evil” foreshadowing of Hope herself? It wouldn’t be the first time the Mikaelsons had to square off with their own blood relatives, and as the showrunner, Michael Narducci, explains, Hope will take after her father in terms of intelligence and cognizance of self-power. I guess we’ll just have to wait and watch Season 4 to see Hayley’s influence on her daughter, and if Klaus has truly grown enough as a person to be a good father to her. If Season 3 was any indication, we won’t have to worry about Hope attacking the family – just maybe eviscerating anyone who threatens their happiness.

Honestly, with 2 of the most powerful witches in the world, 2 hybrids, 3 original vampires, and 1 uber-vampire, this new villain is going have to be on a god’s level to even be an adversary to our beloved Mikaelson family.

Honorable Mentions

Exciting highlights not mentioned in the article:

  • Hayley going full wolf form to protect the Mikaelsons. I mean how awesome was that?! 3 against 1? No problem for Hayley Marshall-Kenner.
  • Camille is back! Well, at least as a vision in Klaus’s tortured mind. It’s good to see he hasn’t lost his therapist – especially at a time when he needs her the most to stay sane.

Don’t forget to catch the The Originals Season 4 premiere on The CW, March 17th at 8/7c. Let the warfare begin.
