The Fosters Cancelled at Freeform

The Fosters, Freeform’s award-winning show, will only last five seasons on the network.

The Fosters cancelled at Freeform! A travesty? Yes. But there is a glimmer of hope for diehard fans of the series… there will be a spin-off. Get the details here!

The Reality

Freeform released a statement that Season 5 will be the last of the series, but with a three-episode finale to air in the summer. They also announced a 13-episode spin-off to follow the characters played by Maia Mitchell, Cierra Ramirez, and at least one more cast member of the show, as they navigate their young adult lives.

Needless to say, every event with a prologue is expected to have an epilogue, but it feels very heartbreaking to watch this show go. However, Freeform deserves undeniable commendation for giving it a platform to thrive, and for bringing to life the multidimensional layers of human social relationships and behavioral inclinations. Over these five seasons, the stories told by these characters have inspired, liberated, guided, and have entertained multitudes of people from various walks of life and geographical locations. The tears, laughter, shock, secrets, fears, the mind-numbing cliff-hangers, the tough love, hard truths, regrets, the intrigue, the infamous copper pan, and the overwhelming intensity associated with this show will remain etched in our hearts and serve as a reminder that amazing is possible when storytelling is done with love and commitment.

Belief and Hope

I expect that the show will draw the curtain on a satisfactory note because, at the end of the day, we want to see the characters succeed in order to teach viewers that redemption is possible, in spite of life’s many challenges.

As I welcome the premiere of Season 5B with mixed feelings, I will always find solace in the understanding that this show has adorned me with invaluable wisdom and knowledge beyond the boundaries of academics. I am equally ecstatic about the spin-off, especially by the fact that it will be spearheaded by the show runners, which means we get to embark on more of this fabulous journey. It has been a jolly ride so far, and though the end is imminent, “goodbye” is a feeling that has to wait.
