Supergirl Season 2 Trailer: The Sky’s the Limit

Since the announcement of Supergirl’s move to The CW, and casting of Teen Wolf’s Tyler Hoechlin as the Man of Steel, we finally know the extent that Clark Kent will play in Season 2.

Why do we need Clark Kent to appear in Supergirl Season 2? Truthfully, we don’t. His presence in Season 1 was already too overpowering, but now we must deal with Kara actually living in his shadow.

imageIs the arrival of Superman to boost ratings as the show shifts networks? The familial relationship of Kara and Clark would be interesting to explore, and is the one particular thing I’m looking forward to, but it would be even more interesting if we didn’t already have that connection between Kara and Alex?

Supergirl is a woman’s world, and it needs to stay that way. The strong female characters that inhabit National City are beyond well enough to satisfy the needs of viewers, and including Superman overshadows every character on this show. He has his popularity, he has his feature films, it’s time to let a less popular character shine in her own spotlight.

If Superman’s appearance was short and a one-off, it would be different. Obviously there’s much to explore with these characters, especially seeing as Kara was originally set to Earth to protect Clark, but having him around as a recurring guest star is too much.

However, if the writers go down the path I think they will, if Superman is killed off in a freak accident then Kara will be able to further her path as Supergirl and she’ll be the one hero of the world and not second-best to her cousin in the people’s eyes. But perhaps Kara has to prove herself with the Man of Steel around in order for that to finally occur.
