Supergirl Season 2 Adds Five New Characters

In the wake of the news that Superman will appear in Supergirl Season 2, now comes news that the series will introduce five new characters in its sophmore season (via TVLine).

Longtime Superman and Supergirl comic fans may also recognize a couple of names, including Lena Luthor, sister of Superman’s archenemy Lex Luthor.

Lena comes to National City to “get out from under the shadow of her infamous brother. She’s described as sexy and smart and determined to get what she wants. But what does she want? That remains unclear.”

After that is Nick Farrow, who will be made a series regular.

He’s described as a “brash leading man”  who wants to make a big name for himself as a journalist, hoping to live up to his father who is a famous reporter. He is “looking to make a name for himself in the news world but the question of whether he can leave behind his former selfish and hedonistic ways will constantly arise.” Hanging out with Kara might make the hero in Nick finally come out.

Also announced is The Doctor, the head of the mysterious Project Cadmus, who “uses her surgical skills to implant prisoners with alien technology.”

Snapper Carr, a veteran journalist Cat appoints to “remake the news division by going old school.”

Maggie, “an out and proud detective for the newly formed Science Police, which deals specifically with metahuman and alien threats.” Maggie can only be Maggie Sawyer, one of Superman’s longtime allies in the Metropolis PD.

What could this mean for the established characters? Calista Flockhart’s role as Cat Grant still seems to be up in the air as production of the show heads to Vancouver. In her original signing, she was adamant that filming remain in Los Angeles.

Could these new characters be added in to take some of the heat away from her departure as a series regular?

Supergirl Season 2 returns this fall, freshly on The CW, joining ArrowThe Flash and Legends of Tomorrow in the shared DCTV universe.
