DARREN CRISS (“GLEE”) GUEST STARS AS THE MUSIC MEISTER IN THE FLASH AND SUPERGIRL MUSICAL CROSSOVER – Barry (Grant Gustin) and team are surprised when Mon-El (guest star Chris Wood) and Hank Henshaw (guest star David Harewood) arrive on their Earth carrying a comatose Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist) who was whammied by the Music Meister (guest star Darren Criss). Unable to wake her up, they turn to Team Flash to save her. However, the Music Meister surprises The Flash and puts him in a similar coma, one that Team Flash can’t cure. Kara and Barry wake up without their powers in an alternate reality where life is like a musical and the only way to escape is by following the script, complete with singing and dancing, to the end.
Technically, the crossover starts on Monday’s Supergirl but, much like this past Fall’s epic crossover of all The CW superhero shows, the crossover really kicks off in The Flash. This is sure to be a fairly different kind of crossover as Criss’ Music Meister traps Kara and Barry in a coma where life is a musical.
Having seen some of Glee, these three do have some incredible singing talent (something Flash already poked fun at with Gustin a couple seasons ago) and Darren Criss has some great writing talent too. For anyone who hasn’t already seen it, go watch A Very Potter Musical on YouTube. It’s a great parody of Harry Potter with some memorable songs, yet still captures the essence of the Harry Potter series.
What will also be interesting about ‘Duet’ is seeing characters from Supergirl make their way over to Earth-1. Seeing Martian Manhunter and Mon-El interact with Team Flash will probably have some humourous moments, though I feel there’s lost potential that Cisco and Winn won’t be meeting. Seeing the two of them geek out together would have been great.
It will also be nice to have a bit of a breather from the main plotline with Savitar. The last couple of episodes of Flash have been pretty heavy on story and emotional weight. Seeing some levity injected into Barry and the team’s lives should be a refreshing break from the doom and gloom we’ve faced so far.
With the three Glee stars reuniting, The Flash Season 3 Episode 17, airing next Tuesday at 8/7c on The CW, should be very entertaining.
