Supergirl Preview: Luthors (Season 2 Episode 12)

After a less-than-eventful episode, Supergirl seems to be picking up again on the Project Cadmus story as Lillian Luthor escapes jail, while her daughter is imprisoned for a crime that she (probably) didn’t commit.

Supergirl Season 2 Episode 12 promises to explore Lena’s character more, but more importantly, her terrible relationship with her adoptive mother who is an avid believer in Lex and his vision to exterminate the aliens.

What’s next for Lena Luthor? She’s the reason that her mother, Lillian, was imprisoned in Supergirl Season 2 Episode 8, so could her imprisonment be revenge for that? Lena doesn’t seem the type to end up in prison, but who knows, maybe if you’re a Luthor that’s where you’re destined to be.

Considering her relationship with Kara and Supergirl, I highly doubt Lena would do anything to put herself there and in danger. But maybe her devotion to her mother is greater than we believed. Lillian could know all the ways to make Lena believe that she wants her and loves her, but her actions throughout Lena’s life have proved otherwise.

Perhaps Lillian just needs the resources of the Luthor business in order to regain the power she lost from within Project Cadmus.

More than that, this is going to put Kara’s judgment on the line. Obviously, according to the trailer, she believes in Lena and her innocence, but if she’s wrong she’s going to have a hard time trusting herself, and worse, having her team trust her decisions. Kara trusts her friends far more than anyone else, but considering she hardly knows Lena, putting herself on the line to protect this person that is tied to a family so directly harmful to people like her is risky.

Whether Lena is guilty or not, it’s going to be interesting to see how Metallo comes into play.

Supergirl Season 2 Episode 12, “Luthors,” airs Monday, February 13 at 8/7c on The CW.
