In an interview first posted by the DCTV Podcast channel on YouTube (video above), Caity Lotz (White Canary) discusses what’s next for her character, Sara Lance, as the Legends of Tomorrow return to the future to a timeline that’s all kinds of screwed up from their tampering in the Season 2 Finale.
When we last saw the Legends, they returned to 2016 which was now a land full of dinosaurs and legacy changes. Legends of Tomorrow Season 3 picks up off of this return and the group of misfits is now tasked with fixing what they’ve done, but there’s a new entity (quite like the Time Masters from Season 1) getting in the way.
The official description for Legends of Tomorrow Season 3 reads:
After the defeat of Eobard Thawne and his equally nefarious Legion of Doom, the Legends face a new threat created by their actions at the end of last season. In revisiting a moment in time that they had already participated in, they have essentially fractured the timeline and created anachronisms – a scattering of people, animals, and objects all across time! Our team must find a way to return all the anachronisms to their original timelines before the time stream falls apart. But before our Legends can jump back into action, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and his newly established Time Bureau call their methods into question. With the Time Bureau effectively the new sheriffs in town, the Legends disband – until Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell) discovers one of them in the middle of his well-deserved vacation in Aruba. Seeing this as an opportunity to continue their time traveling heroics, Sara (Caity Lotz) wastes no time in getting the Legends back together. We reunite with billionaire inventor Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), the unconventional historian-turned-superhero [Nate] Heywood (Nick Zano), and Professor Martin Stein (Victor Garber) and Jefferson “Jax” Jackson (Franz Drameh), who together form the meta-human Firestorm. Once reunited, the Legends will challenge the Time Bureau’s authority over the timeline and insist that however messy their methods may be, some problems are beyond the Bureau’s capabilities. Some problems can only be fixed by Legends.
Funny how the title runs in the family, isn’t it? Sara Lance captained the Waverider after Rip Hunter went missing, but the title has stuck, and ultimately the position is a perfect fit for Sara. After her time with Oliver on Lian Yu, her time in the League of Assassins, and her death, Sara lost control of her life. She lost control the moment she got on the Queen’s Gambit.
This is her chance to shine, and her chance to really show off everything she’s learned over the last decade of her life. She has the persistence to stand up against Rip and his Time Bureau, and to deal with her team, and she has the determination and skill of a leader that can do whatever it takes. Season 3 will really challenge Sara as she has to go up against Rip this time.
White Canary and Black Siren?
No surprise our favorite part of the interview had to do with the Lance sisters, or rather, Sara and the Earth-2 counterpart of Laurel. Their first meeting has been teased for this upcoming season, and it seems both Caity and Katie are looking forward to seeing this change in dynamic and dealing with what this means as actresses.
A team-up is unlikely, unless their meeting is saved for the crossover event in November, but that’s not very likely either. Still, whatever happens, it’ll be interesting to see Sara deal with this, and to see what Black Siren’s reaction will be. Did Sara exist on Earth-2? Did she die, like Earth-2’s Oliver? It’ll be interesting to see this dynamic, far more so than seeing Quentin and Siren, since Sara had the chance to save her sister and didn’t, and maybe she’ll deal with guilt from that decision by seeing this familiar stranger.
