Next year a little magic will be coming to Central City as former Harry Potter actor Tom Felton has been announced as a series regular joining the cast of The Flash Season 3.
According to TV Line, Felton will play Julian Dorn, “a fellow CSI at the Central City Police Department who suspects there’s more to Barry Allen than just his good guy reputation.” This is the first piece of casting news since the second season ended, and doesn’t offer any hints for what’s to come as the series is set to adapt their own spin on the infamous Flashpoint storyline from the comics.
The Flash Season 2 ended with Barry travelling back in time and preventing his mother’s murder, changing the future in significant, unknown ways.
When Barry did this in the comics, he sent a huge ripple through the timeline that significantly changed history. For instance, Bruce Wayne was the one shot in the alley and Superman’s rocket ship landed in the heart of Metropolis, decimating most of the city, while Wonder Woman and Aquaman were at war with each other, threatening to destroy the world.
While The Flash won’t entirely adapt this storyline due to not having the same characters from the story, it will still be interesting to see how Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg adapt it.
The Flashpoint story will almost certainly accommodate Supergirl, which is moving to The CW in the fall, being brought into the main DCTV universe. An epic, four-way crossover between all the CW superhero shows is set for the fall.
Whether this has to do with Flashpoint or something else entirely remains to be seen. Will Barry’s actions affect the other DCTV shows, nor will they ignore this killer twist? It’s likely to not be long lasting, as we’ve become attached to the current versions of these characters.
The Flash Season 3 premieres this Fall on The CW.
